Martin was one of two companies honored
for the 2006 year by the Utah Labor Commission
with a workplace safety award. A ceremony
honoring Martin Door and Cookie Tree was
held on Feb. 19 in Salt Lake City. The
awards were part of 102nd annual membership
meeting of the Utah Manufacturers Association.
Sherrie Hayashi, the state's labor commissioner,
made the presentation to Larry Martin,
vice president of MDM, and to Jim Wintch,
maintenance/safety manager, as part of
the ceremony.
Martin Door's commitment to a culture
of safety in the workplace plus its ongoing
effort to foster an ergonomically friendly
environment was highlighted as part of
the presentation.
Wintch said it is an honor for the company's
safety record to be recognized but he
is still trying to work on small methods
to create a safer workplace.
"If you see a potential for something
to happen, it's going to happen,"
Wintch said.
Wintch said the ultimate goal is to get
everyone to create a safety culture in
the workplace. He said support from management
has made a big difference in trying to
reach that goal.
