TV Cameras Roll On Martin Installation

Aug 9, 2005

SAN FRANCISCO – Martin Door Manufacturing continues to add curb appeal to a national television makeover show.

MDM contributed a 15 x 7 carriage house wood door to a home makeover in the Bay Area this month that was filmed for Home & Garden Television's “Curb Appeal”. The door was the popular Birkshire design with Newforrest windows.

The show will air later this year, probably in November, according to one network executive. (Martinews will publish the time of the show, as soon as it is available). It is the second door Martin Door has contributed to a “Curb Appeal” project this year.

Paul and Donna Petralia of Bay Area Overhead Door pose in front of a completed carriage house wood door done for Home & Garden Television's “Curb Appeal” with David O. Martin, chairman of Martin Door Manufacturing. The door was installed in early August for an upcoming segment of the show. Martin flew to San Francisco to witness the installation and to be interviewed for the show.

Bay Area Overhead Doors of Santa Clara installed the door. Paul and Donna Petralia are the owners of the business.

The house is located in the St. Francis Wood neighborhood in San Francisco and is undergoing a transformation from a mish-mash of styles to Mediterranean - Tuscan. Part of that makeover was taking a well-used garage door off and replacing it with a new carriage house door, powered by a Martin opener.

The garage is located directly under the baby's nursery and the homeowners were delighted to replace a nationally-sold opener described by HGTV producer Annie Sloan as “comically loud” with a Martin opener. HGTV producers have what they describe as a “comical scene” in the segment where the homeowners open the garage door only to induce a frown from the baby.

Curb Appeal is a popular prime-time weekly television show hosted by Rick Spence. It can be seen in over 90 million homes across the country and is broadcast multiple times throughout the year.

The focus of the series is to show how to improve and enhance the front of a home's appearance as viewed from the street. On each episode, designers take a house and help the homeowners literally transform it from the curb. Through the vision and creativity of the HGTV design and production team, viewers get inspired to take our ideas and plunge into their own home improvement projects.

Dave Martin flew to San Francisco on Aug. 5 to be interviewed for a portion of the upcoming HGTV show.
